36 Similar Couples Wed in Illinois

ILLINOIS, - Four months ago, Governor of Illinois Pat Quinn signed the legislation about freedom of lesbian, gay, and transgender. As a result, according to Xinhua news on Thursday (06/02/2011), 36 similar pairs were given the opportunity to marry. Couples that present themselves in the Millennium Park in Chicago.

"This is a historic day. It's a special day. A day when all citizens in the Land of Lincoln can celebrate. Every person in this country is important,"said Pat Quinn delivered a speech there.

Quinn statement from the Democratic Party was shared by the mayor of Chicago, Rahm Emanuel. Chicago is the largest city in the state of Illinois. "A long journey to celebrate this occasion,"said Emanuel, who also came from the Democratic Party.

In the United States, at least there's only six states that legalized same-sex marriage. In addition to Illinois, the states referred to are Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Washington DC.
